  1. Ever wondered where Valentine's Day originated? Long before it was called Valentine's Day, there was a Pagan festival called Lupercalia. It was held in ancient Rome, at the beginning of February to honour the God, Pan, and celebrate the arrival of Spring.  It was associated with purification and fertility rituals. Early Christians then decided to change the festival to one of romantic love in the shape of Saint Valentine. The most accepted story of St.Valentine is that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and persecuted by the Roman Empire. These days Valentine's Day is associated with love, hearts and romance. So if that's what you are looking for, then we have a great selection at Aster.

For the more traditional amongst you, there is a hand carved love spoon, from East of India. The love spoon has a solid heart handle and comes boxed, plus why not take advantage of our complimentary gift wrap service and get your Valentines "all wrapped up"! (Excuse the pun!!!). The love spoon retails at £9.00 and is pictured below:

For something a bit different, why not look at the LOVE photo holders by Transomnia. These are 4 blocks that can be used separately or together to hold your most precious photographs and retail at £7.50.

  2. Well 10 days in...and I'm managing to keep up with one of my resolutions at least! I've managed to write another blog post! But that's because I've decided to share and review some of Aster's favourite websites...and I'm keen to get started!

Today, as the weather had taken a frosty turn, I decided it was the perfect time to think about...holidays!!! There's nothing like planning your escape to brighten up even the coldest winter's day. And if you are brave enough to be one of the millions of Brits who love camping, caravaning and general outdoors activities, then I've got the perfect website for you!

Awnings and accessories is a wonderful website, that sells tents, caravan awnings, folding campers and much, much more. Plus they now also offer a full bike section, selling men's, ladies and children's bikes, plus scooters, trikes and BMXs (that take me back to my 80s childhood!!!). All products that are available on the website come with free Mainland UK delivery, and Laura is more than happy for you to contact her with any questions about sizing or a particular product. The website is easy to navigate and they accept most major credit and debit cards through a secure payment facility.

One of this season's best-selling ranges is the Dorema awnings range that includes the deluxe Dorema Royal 350 awning and the Dorema Panorama sun canopy. The Royal 350, seen below, retails at £960, but is made from the highest quality Ten Cate All Season material, and with many optional extras available, really is one of the best and most versatile awnings around.

The Dorema Panorama Sun Canopy (seen below in red/grey) will give you a luxury, lightweight awning, that is perfect for touring caravaners. The canopy comes with detachable side panels and is available in 4 colours, at a cost of £355.

No review of awnings and accessories would be complete without a look at my childhood dream...a BMX! (OK so I was a bit of a tomboy as a child, but also my older brother had a yellow and red BMX that I coveted for years...and never got!!!). Things have certainly moved on since the 1980s, and the website has a fantastic range of modern BMX bikes in a fabulous array of colours. My favourite, and I know it will come as a surprise following my admission of being a tomboy, is this Neon Pink Rooster BIG MOMMA model, at £159.99!

So, if you are currently planning your 2013 camping or caravaning holiday, it will be worth a look on Awnings and Accessories, who can be found at You can also find them on Twitter at Happy planning...and Happy holidays.
